Firslty we’re not talking about dancing here, in the form of swing dance. Our swinging is of the horizontal dancing variety and if I say so myself a lot more fun and a lot more natural!

Swinging or the practice of wife swapping has been around for a very long time, although it has to be noted that you don’t have to always have a wife to go swinging!

Single males are an important part of the swinging scene for everyone involved. In some sectors it says that swinging really took off (no pun intended) in the US air force during the 50’s although I can’t be 100% sure. What is certain is it really started to gain momentum unsurprisingly in the liberated 60’s and continues unabated today.

There is more and more interested in the swinging scene down under. Its pretty vibrant with some greta clubs, most of them on the east coast. Bringing up swinging in a conversation with people whose responses are still unpredictable is always hard to do. You are not sure whether the people you are talking to are swingers or swinging couples, and you would want to know without risking too much exposure, right?

I have probably mentioned this trick before, but it is indeed one of the oldest tricks in the book and it can be used to discretely find out if someone is swinging — or comfortable with you being a swinger. You can say things like a friend gave you the publication or other similar reasons, and then state that you think reading the publication was interesting. People who are actually swingers will share their experiences, people who are comfortable with swinging will show no eminent reactions and remain calm while asking probe questions, while people who just can’t live with the idea will surely freak out or act negatively as soon as you said the publication was interesting. Pretty easy, right?

This also meant sexually. The key parties later made it more accessible to the general population. During these parties couples would attend. The husband or boyfriend would place his keys in a bowl at the beginning of the night. After a night of a few drinks and conversation the men would sit on one half of the room and the women on the other. Each woman would draw a set of keys and go home, or to another room, and have sex with that man.

Later magazines, newspapers and other forms of communication were established. Couples and individuals were able to take out and answer ads looking for “playmates”. Finally with the advent of the Internet more resources were available for them to find people. Swinging and wife swapping clubs then became more common. Couples and individuals can join for a minimal fee and go through an application process.

Whether it be known as wife swapping, swinging, one thing remains the same. Couples and individuals have found a way to live a lifestyle they desire and express themselves. There is a sexual freedom all involved share. And they have the ability to enjoy it.

Military husbands would attend parties being told that if they were killed in the line of duty friends would care for their wives, including sexually. Key parties then came about. Since it’s introduction it has been accepted more. Modern swinging is more equal with men and women having an equal role in finding their “friends” and enjoying the experience equally. It has now spread across the world with the introduction of magazines and clubs.

The Internet helped the lifestyle grow beginning in the 80s. With the introduction of anonymity and the ability to meet more people, many joined the lifestyle. Before the Internet, swingers had to rely on magazines and newspapers to find others with the same interests. This was a new avenue for swingers to meet others with the same interests.

The swinging community continues to grow daily. The Internet not only helps couples and individuals find people with the same likes and interests, it helps spread information on the lifestyle. And, with the acceptance of the lifestyle, it will continue to grow.
